Chapter 259: Strangely Silent
Taweel noticed right away, but Tamaes voiced his concern first. “Does it seem … quiet?”
“Unusually so,” Taweel agreed, scanning the encampment.
Bern and Taji loosed their weapons, and Jacinto turned to walk backward. He asked, “Where is everyone?”
“Training?” suggested Tamaes. But the skies were empty.
The silence held a breathless quality, as if a storm might break. And then Omri peeped.
From within the overseer’s tent came a muffled giggle.
Tamaes blinked. Taweel gasped. Trading wondering glances, they crept closer. Taweel slipped one finger between the folds of fabric, and Tamaes joined him in peering through the gap.
