Chapter 170: Strength and Skill
Tamaes propped his new sword against his shoulder and watched Nock’s brothers team up against Taweel. The Fourfold made terrifying sparring partners. Fire-bronzed feathers beat the air. Hooves clattered against stone. They thought as one, moved as one.
Tamaes said, “If we joined Taweel, the sides would be even.”
“Impossible,” replied Nock. “I cannot fight myself.”
“But he cannot win.”
“Victory is not his goal.”
Which made sense. These weren’t enemies. The mock battle flowed like a dance, but Tamaes could tell his mentor fought seriously. “He holds nothing back.”
Nock’s leonine smile revealed sharp teeth. “Struggle bears good fruit.”
