Chapter 58: Lost Possibilities
Taweel withdrew to his shadowy alcove. Not to stay. Omri needed light. But the Guardian’s mood had taken a downturn. “So young. So innocent.”
Omri didn’t answer. Only crawled through Taweel’s thick hair, humming nonsense.
Having a child wrapped safe in his wings made Taweel remember. And all the lost possibilities tasted like regret and shame. No wonder his wings whispered sadness. Could that sorrow taint Weft? “I should go. For his sake.”
He’d nearly talked himself into leaving when a soft scuffle came from Loris’s workroom … followed by excited whispers. Escape would have to wait. Taweel was cornered.
