Chapter 57: Unfurled

He prolonged the display for Weft’s benefit. Leafy patterns shifted. Light slowly lifted away from Taweel’s broad shoulders and the backs of his arms. Translucent layers of purple swirled outward.

Weft gasped in delight and mimicked the Guardian’s wingspan. “May I see?” he begged.

“Your eyes are open.”

The young Weaver wiggled his fingers, and Taweel grunted. Beckoning the boy closer, he enfolded him in swaths of light. To his amusement, Weft gathered the stuff close and rubbed it against his cheek.

“Fine. Soft,” he crooned. Pausing to listen to the music that whispered through Taweel’s wings, Weft added, “Sad.”
