Chapter 274: Campfire Songs
Three tents flanked the Pomeroys’ campsite—one for Prissie and her mother, one for Tad and Neil, and one for the littler boys and their father. Their guardian angels fanned out through the surrounding woods, forming a much tighter perimeter than usual.
“Wingtip to wingtip,” Alpheus murmured. “I’m sure we could reach.”
“Agreed,” whispered Ethan, who signaled Jomei. “Do you think your mentor would mind …?”
During evensong that first night, Trumble humored the eager apprentices. Rather than joining a wider perimeter, they crowded close. Wings outstretched. Gazes steady. Voices blending in celebration, the Hedge rejoiced to be so near.
