Chapter 252: An Ill Wind
During a January thaw, Ethan caught a familiar whisper that chilled his heart. “There, your care is cared for. Now live carefree, like me.”
Following Blight’s hissing laughter into the shadows behind the machine shed, Ethan quietly called, “What do you mean?”
“A boy deemed redeemable. A guard seems unseemly.” The demon slunk out from behind a tree and smiled. “I was patient. See? I am rewarded.”
A demon rejoicing over a child’s salvation? Impossible. Ethan gripped his sword more tightly. “What exactly were you waiting for?”
Blight’s blue eyes glittered. “Freed from obligation. Free to oblige me … friend.”
