In which I mark a milestone…

Authorial Endeavor #024. Rough and Tumble is a companion story to the Threshold Series. While the main series takes place from a human perspective, the point of view tilts into the heavenlies for this FREE serial. Our “hero” is young Ethan, the newest angel the Hedge surrounding the Pomeroy family farm. He’s Sent to watch over Prissie’s little brother Zeke.

I began posting Rough and Tumble as a countdown for the release of The Blue Door on September 25, 2012. Since then, the story has updated each weekday. Yesterday, we reached a milestone—200 chapters! And I’m celebrating by unveiling a new piece of art by Hannah Christenson. Readers should immediately recognize these two.

Lucan and Jomei by Hannah ChristensonBecause of Rough and Tumble‘s unique perspective, readers of this sweet and silly story have learned many tidbits about angel culture.

♦ Why do some angels have their left earlobe pierced by a ring?
♦ What’s the difference between a Flight and a Hedge?
♦ How do angels get the manna they eat each day?
♦ Do all guardian angels carry swords?

You can find some of those things in my angelic Glossary, but I hope you’ll read Rough and Tumble for yourself. Not only will it add to your enjoyment of Angels All Around, a free short story that blends the casts of The Blue Door and Rough and Tumble. It will also give you special insight into some upcoming events in Book 3: The Broken Window, which releases on September 23, 2013.

Fun Facts:
♦ Lucan’s and Jomei’s names both mean “light.”
Rough and Tumble will wrap up at Chapter 300. That’ll be in November.
♦ Lucan is featured in one of the illustrations for Angels All Around!
♦ I’ve started writing a short story (okay, more of a novella) that details how Lucan and Jomei first meet. Does it surprise any of you that it’s a romance?

Are you a Rough and Tumble reader? Great! Do you know someone who should be? Let ’em know! I’d love for as many people as possible to be in on this fun!

  1. Sheay says:

Will you continue to write Rough And Tumble after November??
In Galleries of Stone, you “broke” the stories up in to three “books”
And how many books will there be in “The Threshold Series”?

    • Hmmm… let’s see if I can answer this succinctly.

      1. After more than a year of weekdaily updates, Rough and Tumble will reach ‘The End’ in November. I’ll be moving on to tell a different serial tale, which will also have 100-word chapters and update Monday through Friday. More about that in November!

      2. Yes, Galleries of Stone was broken into three books, mostly to accommodate the time skips. In that sense, it could be considered a trilogy.

      3. The main Threshold Series that Zondervan/Zonderkidz is publishing is a four-book series. However, the story isn’t entirely limited to Prissie’s adventure. I’ve written three short stories that are companions to the main series (Angels All Around was the first), and there are these two weekdaily serials. I have a few other stories in the works that also take place in the Threshold universe, but we’ll have to wait and see what’ll become of them.
