Chapter 122: Here, Kitty, Kitty
The Pomeroy children had been coming and going all morning, but Zeke hardly noticed the slap of the screen door. His mother had given him an assortment of pots, lids, and spoons to play with, and the boy was completely absorbed.
Until a curious kitten slipped inside.
Ethan saw a sparkle kindle in Zeke’s blue eyes when he spotted the barncat. One pudgy hand thrust out between the rails of his playpen as he called, “Kiddy, kiddy, kiddy …?”
A pulled tail. A cat’s yowl. A scratched hand. A baby’s wail. Both youngsters were a little wiser for their encounter.
